Hi. I am known as Gia, Giaguara, Anna, and in some older contexts was known with some other names. I can not easily describe what I am using only a few phrases, so a try to do so seems a big waste of space.

Gia was a diminuitive form for giaguara, that was a dot mac handle I got in the times of Puma (OS X 10.1), meaning (female) jaguar in Italian. People kept asking me when 10.3 was to come out whether I'd change my identity to Panthera, but no, .. otherwise if you or your child was called Lisa, you would have had to change that name to Veronica once.. change it if it feels fine, but make up your mind, don't always change the names (but keep changing inside). 'Gia' stuck, it sounds better than the most boring, open source name (Anna). It sounds me. Gia is my main online identity where I don't want or need to be a real name.

The other nicknames were there once, and I imagine they deserve a little space here, as repeating the histories of them is not what I enjoy doing all the time. 'Mulattabianca' was because of cultural chaos .. a cultural 'mulatta'. It got tiring, as it attracted far too much male attraction in computer environments such as Appleinsider. 'rrosalia' was something I used in the middle of 1990s, when you suddenly started to find interesting things in the internet. I used it mainly in digiland chats - that was when digiland had about 6,000 users, and not millions like now. The online charm of that place died slowly, and I moved on.. the nick came somehow in use again, years later, in fully different context. Which are not your concern if you don't find them.

I can't define myself easily usign a few words, or any amount of words. I try to live simple and in peace, but the people living in the 'ordinary' westernized way see my life complicated.

I love the sea and ocean, I get a lot of energy of them and become sad when I have to live far from either. No, a lake doesn't have it, the energy, not even the biggest lakes of this planet. I can sit on the stones next to the sea even on a stormy day and just listen to the sea for hours. I like mountains and other places where I can see far. Flat landscapes make me bored. I like old cities, like Palermo, my old home, where some buildings have been there for over a thousand years and when you walk there, in your daily life troubles, you think about the time in a totally different manner than when everything has been build since 1960s. 'These buildings have been here for over a thousand years, and have seen the Arabs, Normans, Germans, Americans, the Garibaldi..' - it makes the small bugs to perspective. And you can keep balance of life a lot better.

I like Green & Black's chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the better. Organic, and about 70-80 % is the best. Of the drinking chocolates, nothing beats Ibarra, the Mexican housebrand. I like sushi, (but I don't eat dead animals) and I like Japanese beer and sake. And wine. I like fishing, camping, walking, running, bicycling, swimming, spending time with friends with ungeeky (normal) activities, and I like to wear natural materials like wool or silk.

Women's magazines have always made me feel paranoid, so I don't simply read them. I rather dress like Steve Jobs than be fashionable. I don't like fashion business. It sickens me, and I rather have my own styles and colors, and spend more money on computers and travelling than accessories that everyone else but me has. I have never understood the women's magazines loose so and so many pounds now, and so and so many next issue .. eat healthy, and forget the numbers. Love. If you want to impress a certain man or woman, how about just asking him or her how he or she would like his or her man or woman to be?

Talk, and listen. Love. Sounds very simple, but in the real life it doesn't appear to be so simple. Love, and you will find the right way. Listen, and you can maybe help someone else's life become better. Smile, and life smiles. Even when it doesn't. Find at least a few reasons, any reasons, to smile every single day, to keep your life worth living.

Complicated? If you think so. I read my newspapers online, rarely watch TV, I laugh on the small stupidities I see around on the media, or when people tell jokes.. I try to never grow too 'adult' to enjoy the every day life. I laugh out too loud when I see or hear something funny, and then scream to the coworkers or people around me "could you PLEASE be less adult?!"

For all my life, I have been a sad person as the tune under everything. Sad like in this picture - that taken when I considered myself to be happy.. doing what I enjoyed for work and such. Something changed, the change is recent (but you will have to figure out the rest of the details yourself), so the sad me is gone forever. I am me. I have woken from a dream that was my life untill now. I no more put Moby's Porcelain to my iMovies, and the most common reason i cry nowadays is because I still am not used to having more emotion kind of stuff than "I am ok", "more or less ok", or "leave me fscking alone". I am no more a puppet, a problem, complexes or weird. I am no more even a full, single souled person. The change is out there, and you will see.

I am a geek, and live with 5 other geeks, all working for the same company. I moved to a new home recently - gaining to the previous home a bigger room, nicer roomates, a nice view over the city, DSL, and one minute shorter walk to work. :)

If that didn't bore you, go to the sites section, or to my blog.

My search of the semplicity in life goes obviously to the design. Especially there. The reason it all looks 'boring' here and you don't find any flashy items .. if you want entertainment, go to see a movie. Websites should be accessible to everyone, including those who can't see or hear. Find me a way to use flash in an accessible way (with this I mean, flash that even a blind person can enjoy), and I might reconsider.

Bored enough? If not, I like ... dark chocolate, cocoa programming, hot mexican chocolate, Japanese beer, sake, Argentinian anc Chilean wines, sushi, con-fusion kitchen, big felines, using command line, Macs, retro Macs, Newtons, iPods, photography, reading all the pointless things to learn everything.. I like to go fishing, swim, laugh, watch old and odd foreign movies, show the package content of all the programs and remove what I don't use, including most lproj files, learning more about programming and using what I have learned, browsing Japanese webpages, finding extrememly geeky gadgets such as USB ducks or christmas trees or bluetooth toothbrushes, swimming in the oceans, boring the guys to death when they have the preconcepts that girls can't have techie interests (I can make easily their interests sounds like they were the ones reading the feminine magazines), being an encyption evangelist (GPG), using incomprensible jargon in Radar, wearing geek t-shirts, trying to convince someone giving their Newton 2100 to me, wondering on a Wednesday night if I should be home and not trying to find some developer software for Newton, browsing and flaming in macosx.com, Appleinsider, airlinemeals.net, 2guys, a mac, and a website, Engrish.com, the Cult of Mac, and more... I like almond and soy lattes, cooking Mexican or Japanese food home, Cape Clear Island, playing with candlelight, finding excuses for my friends for them to travel more, investigating how technical items work, taking apart iMac G5s and other candies, being boring when I want to... oh, and I fo get paid for finding out how all the fancy items work:) ~~ And my big turnoffs: guys (or girls) who don't get the hints of not being free (ie. keeping trying to hit you), command line impairedness, not thinking, showing in public your (any) religion, political discussions (when you have more money than opinion or even a need to really change anything), considering being female or of wrong culture or skin color etcetera beign a handicap (I am sorry for being what I am but I would not have chosen any of this configuration of the body so don't blame on me), meat, Christianity, everything pro-Bush, Texas (excluding very private matters which I am not going to clarify for public), meat and fast food and fashion and diet industries, driving rudely, including mainly honking too much and forgetting that there are walkers and bike riders and not just you in the traffic, people who "need" to label people with geographical locations in order to "understand" them (those who get confused when someone is from France and Madagascar, or Colombia and Japan, or California and Hong Kong, or Finland and Italy, or any possible combination of 2 or more places that aren't so similar, and it possibly never will occur to these people that there are hybrid people out there), milk chocolate, coconut, onion, potatotes (except on New Mexico way), fatty foods, gossips, trying to interrupt other people's lives when you don't want to deal with your own ...

And FYI for statistical curiosities: I am female, roughly of the age of Apple. I work in the geek industries, without specifieing here what I do. My IP starts most of the time 17. I like geeky guys, so the way you think (and use your command line) goes far over whether you have won Mr Universe titles or not.. the mind and spirit are like wine, I rather have the good one and enjoy it ageing well than have just the brainless prince Charming... better Shrek. My boyfriend is an Appleinsider (meh, and I should say something far more geeky here). I have 2 black cats, and have lived and worked in 3 continents. My least favorite questions are "where are you from" (in any language), and bugging me about work related topics that you know I can not talk about. Both ways are a very fast way to get you to my ignore list. Last and not least: I am not looking for lovers. I already am loved. I already have my Shrek.

I notice a lot people find this page googling for Shrek or Prince Charming. Interesting. There is a Shrekkish love story here involved, but that is yet to be written. Among a lot of other books that will be written too ... (Karma Sutra.. a guide for astral sex, Kama Sutra II .. because it will make a lot of money .. making a PDF version of my poem book first in Italian only, then translating that to English and making English or Bi/multilingual edition - then the Shrekkish love story .. some sort of cook book, and probably I'll end up writing some enterprise courses too.. despite of what I'm adviced.) ("Do not fix T2's computers", "do not install OS X server software" and so on). (Last mod. 22/Jan/05)
