About me

Jon Johanning
(and my wife Marion ; we were married last August)

Born in Indianapolis, a few months before Pearl Harbor.
Studied philosophy at the University of Chicago and Yale; taught for a few years in Portland, OR, but didn't care much for teaching as a profession, so made my escape to the "real world."
Moved to Philadelphia area in 1970, and have lived here ever since. Active in the anti-war movement and other social change activity in the late '60s and the '70s (see my account of that time, "U.S. Since the Sixties").
Spent two years in Japan in the late '70s learning Japanese. Have been a free-lance translator of Japanese patents, pharmaceutical and medical stuff, etc., since 1980.
Have two sons: one 24 (singer-songwriter, now in the Czech Republic, singing and teaching English) and one 18 (heading for a career as a chef, it seems).
I expect to post some entries about translation matters later on. Also some entries about another major interest of mine, music -- especially classical and jazz, and about playing classical guitar, which I do when I have time!
