Donna Furguson

I turned 65 in July 2004 and retired October first from my position as Human Resource Manager for a large pharmaceutical company.  I wanted to spend more time with my animals and be free to travel when I had the urge.  I love trail riding and exploring new places.  A group of us gals try to take a long trip out of state at least once a year.  I have 3 horses (2 quarters bred to cut, and 1 miniature which pulls a cart). I also have 2 Australian Shepherds (I have raised both Aussies and Dobermans) and one little spoiled rotten Corgi named Cody -- who just loves to herd the horses for me.  Oh yes, I have a cat that follows me everywhere in the barn.

I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Greene County. As my four children were growing up, I lived in Indy and Morgan County. Now I have returned to Greene County.  Like they say, "you can't take the country out of the girl".....as a small kid, I would climb up on the side of the silo and jump onto the back of our big black bull and ride him around the barn lot.  Tomboy, huh!?  I have never shaken that "tomboy" streak.  When we moved to Indy, I rode every week end at the riding stable.  Took lessons and rode hunters and jumpers.  When the children were grown, I resumed my love for riding and being around horses, however I switched to western riding.  It was then that I caught the bug for "cutting".  It is an awesome 2 1/2 minute thrill of being "one" with your horse.  I competed for a short while, but found that was not for me.  So I joined a "fun cutting club" comprised of people that just want to laugh and have a good time.  We meet once a month and have a blast!  I love to ride and explore new areas.  I have done cattle drives and last year I went to Banff, Canada for a 2 week horseback adventure, packing trip that went into the mountains.  It was the most fascinating trip I have ever taken on horseback.  The scenery and wildlife were awesome.  Sooooo, I plan to return again this year.  I'm looking forward to the Red hat riding experience.  It sounds like so much fun. It is great to be surrounded by those who have the same love of horses as I do.  So many people just don't understand us or why we spend so much time in the barn................why is that??????????
