Trips 3
I've been to so many places now that I had to make yet another page of trips for all to see! Oh, such hard work! Since I'm doing all this hard work for you, don't you think you should send me a present? I do.

Tokyo
I finally made it to Tokyo! Now hear this,
DO NOT go anywhere near Tokyo without someone to guide you!!! Most of the
signs, even in train stations, aren't even written in nice Roman characters
like they are in Osaka and Kyoto. Tokyo is a nightmare in transportation.
If it weren't for the fact that I did have a guide, I'd still be there trying
to find my way home. Pictured here is Akihabara, Japan's electronic mecca.

This is Shinjuku, the main section of Tokyo. This is where all the big buildings are and where all the young people go to hang out. Pictured here is my friend, guide, and Georgetown College classmate, Takashi. I never would have made it through Tokyo without him!

This is the pagoda of Asakusa Temple. Asakusa is one of the most famous temples in Japan.

And here is the entrance to Asakusa Temple. In order to get to the temple, you must first pass through a rather amusing shopping area full of all kinds of things. I.e., a tourist trap. The Japanese characters on the lantern behind us say "kaminari," which means "lightning" in Japanese.

Wait...this is TOKYO??? Ah, but it is! Tokyo is not really a city, but a specially designated capital area, much like Washington D.C. is neither a city nor a state. But Tokyo is much bigger. The northwestern section, however, looks like this. Tokyo is more than just urban chaos!
Mt. Horai

Mt. Horai is not anywhere near Fuji-size, but it's a pleasant climb through a nice wooded area. At the top is Horai Temple, pictured here.
Akabane

Okay, so Akabane really doesn't qualify as a trip seeing as how it's the town next door. But since, when I took this picture, I was biking, it was a kind of trip. So, how long do you suppose this truck's been sitting here? You're probably wondering why I didn't take a picture of something more interesting in Akabane. Well, this is the most interesting thing in Akabane. Atsumi's pretty small, but Akabane is roughly one fifth the size of Atsumi! That's tiny.
