Experiments... (or "To be or not to be")
Before I declare a series a "series" there's a lot of experimentation that goes on.
Over time I've learned not to rush series into being.
However there is a moment when it becomes very clear that I have a visual thought by the tail. it's not that the series starts making "sense" to me. A series seems to accumulate "sense" over a period of time. I'm as much it's observer as it's creator. It's more like I want to keep conversing with the concepts and images a set of images brings up.
I've decided it would be interesting at the very least to me to share some of these non-series meanderings occasionally and invite both verbal and visual commentary.
This piece is called Night Canopy. It was finished, April 18, 2006...it is the first in what I believe will be a series called Light and Darkness. It takes some of the ideas from Visual Thinking and Salon des Textiles Refusés in a slightly different direction. After placing this image on the web page I noted for the first time it's relation to "Hexagram 7 to 8". (see below.)

And here is a small set (note: the non-use of the "series" word) of images with a working title The Book of Changes. These are from various times in 2005. I feel as if I weren't "getting" what they are trying to tell me yet...but if I look long enough it will all become clear. These images"hover" occasionally in my mind's peripheral vision. I don't know where I will go with them but here is where they are in a state of "shared" but "not-quite-published"
They are based on consultations of the iChing in the sense that I worked on them immediately after throwing myself a reading. Visually I'm not sure how they relate to what I read but the readings did spark them.
