Sitting Comfortably

Do you find that your back aches or your legs fall asleep when you sit in the easy pose (cross legged)?

It is easy to make this pose more comfortable. Simply place a folded blanket or a firm cushion under your sitting bones, allowing your legs to fall in front of it. Usually a couple of inches is all it takes, but you can experiment with the amount of support that works for you. It is surprising what a difference it will make. Lifting your hips up just a bit allows your spine to extend up through its natural curves rather than rounding forward - especially important during meditation.

If you are still experiencing tension in your legs, place rolled blankets, bolsters or blocks under your knees to support your legs.

Over time, practicing yoga postures that stretch the hamstrings (such as the Down Dog or Forward Bend) will make this pose easier to maintain.
