Patricia Henderson: Facilitator

I draw on my background in organization development, adult learning, and systems thinking to integrate a unique set of facilitation tools that make for an exceptional meeting.

Graphical Facilitation

Graphical Facilitation is a technique that uses the power of visuals to help capture the thoughts of a group, enabling them to see the whole picture—patterns, gaps, and possibilities—and therefore, make better-informed decisions. The visual images create a powerful metaphor that speaks to the participants at a conscious and un-conscious level and also serves as an effective memory tool.

Brain-based Learning

Brain-based Learning emphasizes that instructional strategies should be designed to fit the way the brain learns—to do otherwise, can actually prevent learning. The principles derived from this dynamic field of research can help guide the choice of facilitation methodologies and ensure that a meeting is effective and fulfilling for all participants.

Learning by Design

Learning by Design is an approach to learning in which participants learn as a result of collaboratively engaging in design activities, applying concepts to solving real-world problems, and reflecting appropriately on their experiences. Originally developed as a technique to teach science to middle school students, Learning by Design is an effective tool to use with any group struggling with mastering new concepts.

Appreciative Inquiry

Appreciative Inquiry is a positive approach to change that focuses on uncovering an organization’s best attributes and practices. It is an inspiring technique that focuses on what works and helps participants dream of what is possible.

Open Space

Open Space is a fast, cheap, and simple way to achieve better and more productive meetings. Groups, large and small, self-organize to effectively deal with hugely complex issues in a very short time.

Conversation Café

Conversation Cafés enable small groups of people to engage in deep conversation with the goal of understanding all sides of an issue more thoroughly. It is a simple format that helps people feel at ease and gives everyone who wants it a chance to speak.
