Why?
A handful of reasons, really. The most important: to bring together, support and foster all active Macintosh Users Groups in Oregon. That takes participation and communication, among other efforts, year round. Hence, this statewide user group. The other reasons? Make sure you take a look at our goals (below).
But in this online,
remote age, we still needed -- we still wanted -- something to bring us all together, face to face. Something like a fun, annual event. And what better way than an on-stage team trivia contest that taps some of the best Mac addicts in our state, showers a ton of Apple and Mac history onto the audience, sends each competing MUG home with prizes and "networking" to nourish their group, and gives each MUG a chance to host the event and showcase their community and members?
We give you the You Don't Know Mac! Event Day.
The prototype
worked
The Corvallis MUG, CMUG,
was at the heart of this same purpose in 1988 with
an event titled MUGshot
'88 -- we believe to be the first statewide User Group event of its kind anywhere. Omug founder and president, Steve, was then the CMUG president. Steve's creation of MUGshot '88 planted the seed of success for what would be born again a decade later.
For those of you already a member of a Mac or Apple User Group, you know Mac users are the most loyal, friendly, sharing and fun computer users of any platform. This event offers more proof. For those of you new to Apple, Macintosh, iPod, or iPhone, the contest gives you a great introduction into the colorful and industry-setting history of Apple Computer (now Apple, Inc.) and the computer that was created "for the rest of us" ... and helped change the world.
Omug Goals
- The statewide Oregon
MacPioneers User Group to act as an active communication hub for Oregon Apple/Macintosh user groups.
- Provide, share helpful MUG and community resources with all participating Oregon groups (and through its website, beyond our state); each Oregon MUG voluntarily contributes to the cause and collection of these resources when possible, and to the support and improvement of Omug.
- Establish, organize and contribute to the annual, statewide YDKM Event Day.
- Establish, organize and contribute to the annual Oregon You Do Know Mac! Awards (honoring and saluting the best vendors, companies and persons in the Apple community).
- Foster healthy, supportive relationships with Apple-related vendors/companies for Oregon's user groups.
- Collect and provide a common "voice" from Oregon's groups to Apple, and vice versa.
- Help Oregon MUGs become active members in their communities by sharing success stories, solutions and involvement.
