User groups represent the spirit of the frontier, a community getting together to do things that no individual ought to have to do alone. The pioneers of the American west got together for barn raisings, cattle roundups, and the occasional party. The pioneers of new technology get together for installfests, new user training and support, and just plain fun. Being part of a user group is the best way to get more out of your computer, and lets you make friends while you're at it.

News Items:
AshMUG teamed up with Omug to bring legend Guy Kawasaki to its May 12 meeting and present him on a live webcast. As Oregon MUGs know, Kawasaki is no ordinary Guy -- he took time to join AshMUG via iChat video conference and bring his wisdom to business students at Southern Oregon University as well (this meeting was hosted on campus).

AshMUG used the latest Apple and Mac technology to host TidBITS auther Joe Kissell (author of "Take Control of Maintaining your Mac") at its Feb. 2008 meeting; this was no ordinary guest appearance -- Joe made his presentation from Paris, France, using Leopard's iChat Theater! Read Joe's article on the experience of using iChat Theater.

AshMUG teamed up with Open Door Network to present a LIVE webcast on Tues. Oct. 11, as AshMUG welcomed David Lorenz Winston, acclaimed professional photographer. Mr. Winston used Keynote to demonstrate his work and process. You can soak in Winston's talent and imagery on his website.

AshMUG sent a group down to MacWorld Expo 2007 in San Francisco, and 3 of its members teamed up to film, edit and post this video highlight (including a real world look at just how long the line is to see a Steve Jobs Keynote!):
