The
purpose of this page is to communicate
requests from our MUGs to meet special
needs from within our communities, whether individual or group, via donations from members of one or more of our Oregon MUGs.
Some
Oregon's MUGs have either a fund established for, or a want to fulfill, such needs when they are known (and have provided in the past). This page serves as a hub to declare and share such requests to our state's MUGs when one group cannot meet those needs on their own.
We also hope that this hub serves as a testimony of such giving and sharing by our MUGs, even though they might rather not have the recognition or publicity. We may share some of these "successes" in retrospect, too. Sometimes "doing good" needs a pat on the back, which, we hope, inspires more of the same.

Keep the channels of communication open and use them
If your MUG has a designated donation person who handles or sends out a request, please let our YDKM Coordinator <ydkm at mac dot com> know and we will post those contacts here.
Otherwise,
go to the Oregon
UGs page to find contacts for each group, or that MUG's main email address.

Goal Met -- Items delivered Feb. 2006
Requested Dec. 2005, MUGport
Contact: Steve Travis, MUGport
The Toledo, Oregon Public Library had very few computers for library visitors to use, and was looking for any donations to help meet this need. MUGport, the Oregon MUG based in Newport on the coast, relayed this need to Mark Reagan of Mac Shop Northwest. Through Mark and the Mac Shop Northwest's generosity, along with MUGport's support and collaborative effort, an iMac G5 was donated to the Toledo library in February, 2006.
Travis and MUGport ambassador Clay Creech helped set up and test the Mac system, which is the first Macintosh for the library.

Goal Met -- Items delivered 10-19 Requested 9-26, CMUG

My Fellow
CMUGers:
CMUG once again is donating a computer to a good cause. A family in Albany, Oregon is looking for a way to provide home access to educational and other computer activities for their 7-year old boy who has mild autism. Use of a computer at school has made a big difference for this boy's success.
One of our members, Marc Moreland, has agreed to donate a PowerMac 6220 with monitor, 32/2gig, OS 9.1 and AppleWorks 6.
But CMUG needs
your help to provide other software. We are hoping
to gather both educational software and some games
appropriate for a 5-10 year-old. If you have
something that you would part with, or if you would
be willing to donate cash towards purchase of
software, CMUG will install it, deliver and set up
the computer.
This youngster
enjoys chess and checkers; other games that do not
require high levels of coordination would be very
welcome. Some titles we're looking for:
- Reader
Rabbitt
- Math
Blasters
- Treasure
Mathstorm
- Mighty
Math
- Carmen
Santiago
- Kid
Pix pro
Do you know of
other good programs? Let us know.
