Missing Links -「
---2004年・上海・M50 ・EASTLINK(莫干山路50号)
[One night コラボレーション] with YOTETS! + hidekeys(サウンド)、櫻井郁也(舞踏)。

Artist's note on Nushu fieldwork
---Observation and brief notes from the field trip to remote location in China where Nushu originated. In September 2007, I accompanied with academics for their fieldwork of Nushu to Jianyong county in Hunan province. This was my first experience setting my foot in this region since encountering this unusual script six years ago and have been intrigued ever since. Random thoughts from my memories of encountered post-Nushu transmitters unique villages, vernacular belief and customs, in trace of gendered space where this script was engendered.
Missing Links -Autobiography-
---A site-specific work on Nushu (see the first project on Nushu for explanation) developed at an old cultural heritage warehouse located in the Rocks, Sydney, commissioned by Terminus Project. This time the project focused on the remarkable fact that those unschooled women had left their autobiographies with their own devised script, Nushu. Due to its low profile and disinterest from men, neither Nushu women’s existence nor the script have ever been recorded in history. The venue was chosen to resonate with women's diaspora in Australia whose significance has also been kept unvoiced. The installation delineates the life of Nushu filling the space overlooking the Sydney harbour with herstory. ---ASN warehouse, Sydney, 2007
The Golden Pavilion-unprecedented future- ---This film installation reveals a reincarnating notion of ultimate beauty conceived in an image of burning temple. Investigation began on an actual event which took place more than 50 years ago when a young monk set fire to the temple of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto; once Japan's national treasure. The work examines Yukio Mishima's novel based on the incident through the film adaptation by Yoichi Takabayashi. The artist's reconstructed vision of climactic burning pavilion scene projected onto a fragmented screen unlocks the ambivalent code of destruction and creation.---SATTELLITE, Japan pavilion, Shanghai, 2006
H project - Two Hemispheres, Two Realities ----"The great pleasure and feeling in my right brain is more than my left brain can find the words to tell you." -Roger Sperry-
This site-specific art project was set in two identical art deco phone rooms inside the former Yokohama Commercial and Industrial Promotion Building (1929). The project was inaugurated by re-contexturalizing two phone rooms at two ends of the entrance hall as a metaphor of right & left hemispheres of the human brain. Based on the Sperry's theory of functional specialization of two cerebral hemispheres, this work challenges to unveil the parody of our inner information and mental screening mechanism highlighting communication / miscommunication between right & left brains.---Yokohama, 2005-2006
Semiotic Space-a case for an endangered language----An installation with 30,000 swarovski crystals to elicit unspoken world of Nushu.Nushu is a writing system created and used exclusively by women in a remote region of China. Now obsolete without its origin and background history being elucidated. The last inheritress of Nushu passed away during this project. The work encodes Nushu's ancestral voices encapsulated in its script as a unique manifestation of the spirit.---EastLink / M50, Shanghai, 2004
Psychotopography---A site-specific project commissioned by Cafe Caravan at an old traditional Japanese house in Tokyo which was on the verge of being demolished. By analyzing architectural clues, the work explores hidden psychology implicit to the house. Series of installations superimposes a mental map to the entire house together with juxtaposed text by Gaston Bachelard which entices viewers to contemplate on our most intimate universe (=home) beyond our daily awareness. Done in collaboration with Ikuya Sakurai (Butoh dance) and YOTETS!+hidekeys (Sound art).
about artist---She enjoys deviation and new breakthrough in areas of orthodoxy.Art brings her pleasure and thrill to shake our shared system of meanings.A provocation for the paradigm shift in our mental universe. She likes teaming up with those having diverse background/expertise in different fields who have a way with both logic and illogic to add interesting elements to cross-disciplinary projects. In-depth research is part of her work as her project is often site & context specific. Currently she is working on series of evolving projects called "Missing Links"and the forthcoming work reveals the most unexpected link between Nushu (recently extinct female only script in China) and esoteric traditions in Gion (Geisha/Geiko district in Kyoto).
