Local 'Less Well Known' Operations/Finds: Here is a brief section on some local 'hidden' operations of the U.P. as well as some interesting finds I have come across.

The Mineral Range RR runs out of National Mine, owned by Clint Jones and operated by Pepin~Ireco Co explosives. To my best knowledge, they have one SW-1 switcher, #600, which works cars for the explosives plant, and moves scrap metal gondolas out of A&L Metal in National Mine. The MR RR exchanges loads and empties with the CN's WC Division LO40 out of Ishpeming at Winthrop JCT.

Michigan Limestone has 2 operations in the U.P. of which I do not know too well. Port Inland near Blaney Park was last using 3 'ex C&IM' locos to pull 70+ car limestone loads within about 10-14 miles of track. And Cedarville near St Ignace has 2 switchers painted in 'Michigan Limestone' blue coloring, pulling only 10-15 car trains and confined to an area around 5 miles. Have yet to photograph either.

Finds Of The Area would include an old BN caboose near 'South Wye' JCT in Negaunee, an old center cab switcher (Cliffs Dow #7) near the Morris Mine in Ishpeming, an old Soo Line orecar frame near the Tracy Mine, and some M&HM RR passenger cars at Presque Isle in Marquette. There are many more neat finds like this across the U.P. and sometimes following a rusty abandoned, grown-in line is worth it. Every now and then there are passenger excursions well worth following in the U.P. as well.
