I was born in Boston, in what was then known as the Boston Hospital for Women. My dad always said it was lucky I was a girl, or they'd have kicked me right out. I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, the suburbs of Orlando, and the suburbs of San Diego. Then I spent four years in downtown New Haven, CT, kicking my 'burb habit. I attended graduate school in Berkeley, CA, and have since settled just down the freeway in San Jose, where I live with my husband, the lovely and talented Daniel Starr. We have a large collection of books, and several computers (most of which work).
I have a couple of degrees in Chemistry, and currently earn my living as a technical writer. (For details, you can view my profile on LinkedIn.
I also write fantasy and science fiction. If you'd like to read some of what I've written, consult this (short, but hopefully growing) list of publications. In the summer of 2002, I attended the Clarion West writers' workshop, where I learned a heck of a lot about writing. I kept a journal of my experiences.

This site was produced using a ramshackle mix of hand coding, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and the page creation capabilities of .Mac. If web browsers were capable of rendering duct tape and twine, I'd probably have used those too. The site cannot possibly be said to be optimized for any particular browser. Currently, Internet Explorer for the Mac comes closest to showing these pages exactly the way I envisioned them, which is quite irritating, because I much prefer Safari.
