via The Trademark Blog, Computer Business Review Online reports on an emerging trend: registering a domain name (presumably .com) to test its traffic potential for pay per click advertising and, if it doesn't generate the $6 or $7 registration fee within the 5 day grace period, ditching it.

They must be .com names at $6 or $7 per registration, a .com.au name will cost AU$100 - $140 p.a. Why on earth is this? What special cachet does .au have?
