Domain names and typosquatting

McAfee has an interesting study on typosquatting, which it concludes is on the rise, and a stylised representation of why it pays ...

Apparently, 22% of the 2,771 domain names they studied are subject to typosquatting and have, between them, generated some 127,381 suspected typosquatters.

It is, shall we say, interesting to note a report last year reporting that 30 million dot-com domain names were registered in one particular month, although 90% were dropped in the "tasting" period.  You might recall that the reason .biz and .info etc. were allegedly introduced was that there were no more dot com names left!

What to do?  Well, think of all the possible variations in your (or your client's) domain name(s) and it should quickly become apparent that you are not going to be able to register them all.

Meanwhile, Prof. Manara reports Fusu, some sort of domain stock exchange (that you have to be invited to join).
