Anti-circumvention exceptions

Somewhere out there the (Australian) House of Representatives Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs is considering if Australia needs more exceptions to the prohibitions on circumventing technological protection measures provided by s 116A in the Copyright Act (and whether any are permitted under The Free Trade Agreement).

Meanwhile

in a Galaxy far away, the US Copyright Office, having received 35 replies to the original submissions, has announced its hearing dates (23 March - 4 April) into what ad hoc exceptions it should implement.

Links to the 35 replies and 74 original submissions, here.

Notice of hearing dates and background, here.

LACA here.

On a side issue, how about the due process in asking for submissions and then formally having a round for replies as well as hearings. Here, usually there is only one official round (and those with sufficient interest may well file further submissions later (even after the "deadline") responding to some of the early submissions. Perhaps our policy makers could implement that procedural reform.
