Living on a desert island

If you're into technology you have probably heard about the new generation iPods and you must certainly have come across all the bleating about no iTunes Music Store in Australia, but did you hear about iTunes 6.0 released at the same time as the new iPods ...

According to the announcement, amongst all the other oohs and aahs, Steve Jobs announced this:

Along with the oodles of songs available on the iTunes Music Store, with iTunes 6 you'll now be able to buy select ABC and Disney TV shows for $1.99 per episode, including Desperate Housewives, Lost, and more. New shows will appear the day after they're broadcast. The shows will be about 180 MB per episode, and Jobs claimed they'd take 10 to 20 minutes to download over a broadband connection. Along with the television shows, you can also buy music videos and short films for $1.99 each; they'll be quite a bit smaller and thus faster to download. iTunes features 2,000 music videos for sale, and although the free streaming music videos are still available, no new ones have been added for about a month.

Imagine in a parallel universe being able to download the whole show for $2.50 if you accidentally missed Big Brother Uncut Live and desperately needed to find out what upset Trish Draper so much (just kidding, do you think Spooks counts as an ABC show - nope). Not only did we miss the music boat, but the other one's already leaving now.

New generation iPods here; iTunes software (Win and Mac) here. See what we shall be missing out on by clicking on the "iTunes Video Exclusive" panel here.
