Australia's Intellectual Property Scorecard

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources has published a document which it calls the Intellectual Property Scorecard 2000 - 2004.

What it includes are tables and graphs of how many applications and grants of statutory IP rights were made in Australia in those years, to some extent in what classes and by whom.

Amongst the "global" figures, it appears that about 40% of Australian trade marks were granted to foreigners; on the other hand only 9% of Australian patents were granted to Australians.

Apparently, Australians patented biotech and pharmaceuticals "more intensively in the USA and the EU than Australia"!

You never know, you might find some statistics that intrigue you here (pdf).
