Exciting anticipation ...

The Commonwealth has released its draft legislative program for the Autumn sittings which commenced today ...

Bills scheduled for introduction include:

• Copyright Amendment (Exceptions, Enforcement and Other Measures) Bill

• Copyright Amendment (Indigenous Communal Moral Rights) Bill

• Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill.

We still have to wait and see if the first proposal will legalise the content of your iPod (and what transitional arrangements if any there might be), and the summary also indicates that there will be reforms to the jurisdiction and procedures of the Copyright Tribunal!

The omnibus bill will amend the other IP statutes to implement the government's response to the Intellectual Property and Competition Report and ACIP's report on patent enforcement (can't find this report or response on ACIP's website here. Maybe it is a reference to the experimental use inquiry and response here).

See the draft program here (pdf).
