St. George Island

Day four, five and six of our trip to St. George Island, Florida

On the 26th, Geoff and Philip left to drive back to Virginia, but Nancy, her mother, my mother and I stayed for three more days. On the 26th I drove to Apalachicola to a nursery to look at plants, and we went into the little town of St. George to shop.
On the 27th we went over to St. George Island State Park. This historical marker tells about William Bowles who ran aground here in an attempt to get the Creeks to attack the Spanish at St. Augustine.

A seagull watched as we ate a picnic lunch.

The island is full of slash pines that are very picturesque because of the constant wind.

On the bay side of the island the mainland can be seen in the distance, beyond the strait.

On the 28th we spent as much time in the sun as possible - here is my mother walking out to the beach.

Here is Nancy's mother, looking for shells.
