That was a real hoot!

Now, do you think Bill

had fun, too?

The Camp Perry National Matches

start on Monday, July 11, with the

Army Marksmanship Unit's Small

Arms Firing School (SAFS).   Bill

and I were signed up, but didn't

arrive at Camp Perry early enough

to check in for squadding.   That

gave us an extra day to settle in,

get me oriented with the place,

and check out the early arrivals on

Vendors' Row.

Weather is generally overcast and

humid, but the sun breaks through

every so often.   Remnants of

Hurricane Dennis brought some

thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon,

and the second relay of

Distinguished Revolver was

interrupted for John and Gary.

That put the Preliminary

Championship day off to a late

start, though two of the ranges

caught up to their afternoon

schedule by skipping lunch for the

volunteers.   What a great bunch

of folks!

We saw some brief showers on 22

day, but the mornings are calm,

with winds picking up in the

afternoon for relay 3 and the team

matches.  Center fire day, winds

in the team matches were

howling.   I wouldn't even have

flown my stunt kites in that wind!

And on 45 day, the rains open up

on Relay 1.  I was on range 3 and

the skies opened during the first

slow fire course, stopping in the

NMC.    The 45 team matches

didn't fare so well.    Slow Fire

finished for the first squads, and

the range was cleared for

lightning.   The 45 team match

was cancelled at 5pm, making

team matches a 2400 point affair

this year.  AZ State Rifle and

Pistol Association placed first in

the Master -- State Association

category with 2231-60x with all six

firing members being used at least

once.
