Eating in Greece -- part III

But our fondest memory of the Athens meat market is the 24-hour taverna inside the market. It serves an exquisite beef-tripe soup and a pig-trotter stew. The layout reminded us of the famous Teochew porridge place along Havelock Road, with the food displayed in trays at the counter. The restaurant operates like a Singapore zhi cha place --- locals don't refer to the menu and head straight to the counter where whatever is available is on display (in the less crowded tavernas outside Athens, we were regularly invited into the kitchen to examine the seafood they had that day in their freezers).
