For the last year and a half , GG has been buried underneath dusty books and records, while peering through illegible correspondence captured on microfilm. This is all work for her History PhD which she is doing in Cambridge (that's Cambridge UK --- used to be just 10 years ago when no one in Singapore would have thought Cambridge MA). The title of the thesis has not been finalised yet but it will be about religion in 19th Century British colonial Singapore.
How do I come in? Well, I am her not-so-trusty research assistant, who continually falls asleep, only waking up to go walk-about in search of copious amounts of caffeine to prevent me from falling asleep.
In any case, I have found some real gems about 19th Century Singapore, which I hope you will enjoy reading ..... And please comment on anything that strikes you as interesting. |
