Commemoration Ceremony for end of Second World War
GG and I attended the commemoration ceremony held at Kranji War Memorial on 12th Sept at 7am (!). Sad thing was that other than the two of us, there was hardly any other Singaporean casual visitor. There were school groups and people involved in the event, but no one who was just interested in the event. GG was very disturbed when the receptionist asked her which school she belonged to!

Although this memorial looks grand, Singapore has never really honoured the memories of the Allied soldiers who bravely gave their lives to vainly defend the island. Instead, young students are only taught how the British were ill-prepared and surrendered to a rag-tag bunch of Japanese.

Not all the Allied soldiers were British or Australian. There were also the Malay and Indian Regiments. The Malay regiment fought a fierce and futile battle at Pasir Panjang
