Others at Half-time

A good friend of mine just tendered her resignation from a well-paying statutory board to set up a "non-profit mission venture". She was so torn between her desired destiny in life and the stultifying realities of her job that she left before she had completely crystallised what she wanted to do next. She also has several financial commitments to service.

But talking to her over lunch this week, I got the sense that she had embarked on the same journey as I had. It was a journey where she started down a different fork in life several months ago without even realising it, but when the time came to take a decision, the decision was so clear to her that she did not have to think very much about it. She knew instinctively that crossing her personal Rubicon was the right thing to do, and she crossed with little fear of the future or attachment to the present and past.

I wish her all the best. She might not succeed but I know she would have been miserable all her life if she did not even try.
