You are probably wondering what is the game that I am playing, and why would anyone play a game at half-time when players are supposed to be resting?
Without sounding over-dramatic .... OK I like to be over-the-top, I am playing a game that everyone is playing, but very few people know they are players. Even fewer understand the rules, and a select group know how to control the game. This is the game of .... life. (I told you I could be overdramatic when I want to be)
I am 33 years old. I have been working for almost eight years in the Singapore Civil Service in a high-paying job, and yet I am sometimes gripped with uncertainties and fears. I find myself always thinking the big what ifs .... what if I quit my job and join the private sector? what if I started my own business? What can I do that would rock the world, or at least in Tom Peters' words, "make the world wobble on its axis"? Have I wasted most of the first part of my life?
This blog will, amongst other things, document my transition in the half-time of my career. I will take stock and lay the foundations for a transition into a more satisfying phase of my life. One where I can leave a legacy, something more meaningful than "he wrote papers that no one cared about".
I believe many of us are going through the same phase. We don't know who to talk to, who to go for support. I hope this blog will give people a platform to share their thoughts, encourage one another (and myself), and most importantly change their lives.
