Piano lessons in your home in Wilmette, Evanston, Winnetka, and Kenilworth.
Ms. DeHaven teaches students of all ages in their homes in Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Winnetka. Her students range in age from six to over eighty, and are at all levels of ability. She maintains a studio of about 40 students. Instruction includes repertoire, theory and technic, as well as other music-related skills such as ear-training. Most of her students study "tradional" (classical) piano, but she teaches jazz as well.
Ms. DeHaven has a B.A. in Music from DePaul University in Chicago. She grew up on the North Shore and attended New Trier High School. She has taught piano for the past sixteen years. In addition, she was a staff pianist at Nordstrom Department Store at Old Orchard from it's Grand Opening in 1994 until 2001.
She has extensive performance experience, both in solo and ensemble situations, and has played in the lobbies of some of Chicago's best-known hotels, including the Fairmont, the Hyatt-Regency, and the Belden-Stratford. In addition she has played regularly on the Anita Dee II, docked at Navy Pier.
Ms. DeHaven served on the board of the North Shore Music Teachers' Association for the past two years.
Ms. DeHaven has over 25 years experience working with children and youth in both musical and non-musical settings, including camp counselor, youth-group leader, and church youth-music leader. In her free time she is taking a "Great Books" class at the University of Chicago.
