Woodlands Academy Teaching Opportunities
2009-2010 - At this time, we do not have any openings, but if enrollment exceeds current projections additional positions may open up: if you are interested, please submit your application so we may keep it on file and contact you if the need arises. Teachers who can teach more than one discipline are particularly welcome to apply. New openings could be as little as one section (usually two hours a week). In any event, more positions are likely to open up in 2009-2010, and teachers who can wait another year are invited to apply in anticipation. Applications for 2009-2010 will be added to the 2008-2009 substitute pool if the applicant requests.
2009-2010 - Woodlands Academy will have several positions open for next year, due in part because increasing enrollment and our commitment to small class sizes requires expanding our staff. If you are innovative and have a burning desire to help children learn and succeed, we look forward to receiving your application!
Compensation: Our faculty and staff are independent contractors. We are not able to offer health benefits. We do offer a prepaid legal insurance benefit to teachers, paid for by the school. We pay $20 per hour in the classroom. Substitute teachers are paid $15 per hour. Lunch and study hall supervision are paid at the rate of $15 per hour. We also offer $10 per hour for clerical work. This may increase for 2010.
Substitute Faculty: We are always accepting applications for substitute positions in all academic areas.
Substitute Teacher Qualifications: Candidates must have an associate's degree or equivalent or have experience as an educational assistant in the public schools, either in Colorado or another state. We prefer, but do not require, a bachelor's degree and a Colorado substitute teacher's license. Candidates must be willing to be fingerprinted if the school requires. We prefer teaching experience with grades 3-8, but will accept experience teaching adult education, high school, or primary grades. Home school experience is also acceptable.
Core Content Teacher Qualifications: Teachers for 2009-2010 and beyond must have at least a bachelor's degree in their content area, or in a related area with work and/or teaching experience in the content area. A master's degree is preferred but not required. A Colorado teaching license is not required, but teachers without a license must pass the Colorado teacher examination (PLACE or Praxis) in the content area and in Elementary Education, or have an equivalent license from another state. Teachers should also hold a Substitute License or have worked in a Colorado public school as a teaching assistant or substitute teacher, to demonstrate clearance and background checking by the Department of Education. Fingerprints must be on file with CDE. Candidates without this clearance should apply for a Substitute License before beginning work, and must receive this license and provide it to the school within a reasonable time. The PLACE or Praxis should be taken before school starts and results provided to the school. Licensed teachers must provide a copy of the license to the school before beginning work.
Language teachers should either have a degree in the language or be a native or nearly native speaker of the language, with a degree in another field.
Non-Core "Specials" Teacher Qualifications: "Specials" teachers (music, art, physical education, and special workshops) must hold the equivalent of an Associate's degree and have work experience in the content area, and be willing to be fingerprinted and submit to a background check. Home school teachers who have a bachelor's degree in any subject will be considered, provided they are willing to apply for a Colorado substitute license and take the PLACE exam in their content area as soon as reasonably possible. The most important qualifications are a passion for your subject, a high level of competence, and a deep appreciation of children's needs.
