I am an Assistant Curator in the Department of Zoology at The Field Museum. I also teach at and have doctoral students through the Committee on Evolutionary Biology at The University of Chicago.

My research focuses on the evolutionary biology of fishes. I am interested in the large-scale phenomona that have shaped the history and diversification of fishes in both geographic space and geologic time. I use a combination of phylogenetic or "family" trees and detailed anatomical and genomic analyses to understand the evolution of fishes. Major projects in my laboratory include: 1) the higher-level relationships of spiny-rayed fishes; 2) the limits and relationships of the mail-cheeked fishes; 3) the evolution of venomous fishes.

I am currently working on a number of projects with funding from The Field Museum, The Grainger Foundation, and The National Science Foundation. If you are interested in learning more about the work in my lab take a look at the various pages of the website. If you are interested in opportunities in my lab, I encourage you to contact me directly using the e-mail link on the bottom of every page.
