Lately, I've been into online sessions, and diggin' it! Using any of the sites listed below, you can log-in, plug-in and start trollin' sessions. A couple of these sites boast low latency through broadband, allowing for real-time performance. They also provide software for standalone operation or as a plug-in in your fav Mac/PC DAW application. The others allow exchange of audio and midi files using their online sequencer. Best thing... they're all FREE .... and have (albeit, somewhat limited) storage for your projects. Real-time webcam/chat, multiple performances, effects, etc...Finally... you can phone your part in!
