About Myself

I am a translator of Japanese into English, working out of Portland, Oregon. I grew up in Japan in an American household, using English at home and Japanese everywhere else. After building on this bilingual foundation by specializing in Japanese studies in college and graduate school, I taught Japanese language, literature, and culture at the university level for a number of years. The areas I now work in as an independent, full-time translator are:

• Literature, language education, traditional and contemporary culture
• Film subtitles, video and movie scripts/transcripts
• Manga and anime
• Photo essays
• Academic articles, speeches, grant proposals and reports
• Web pages and general business documents of a not too techinical nature (company and conference brochures, catalog copy, PR scripts, press releases, market research, newsletters, correspondence, etc.)
• I do not handle financial, legal, or medical documents.
