Independence

A happy Independence Day to all.

It's with mixed feelings that I approach this Independence Day. After all, the Fourth of July is a celebration of independence from the tyranny of a regime that promoted:

- religious fervor mixed into politics
- suppression of information to the public
- a ruler enstated without vote of the people
- a ruler who believed that he was ordained by God* for his enstatement & actions

[* see bottom paragraph of article]

And a plethora of other problems, not the least, of course, was the ever-so-obvious state of the then-king of England, who was stark raving bonkers .

Not that this has any bearing on our current state of affairs.

Note the tone of sarcasm in my voice.

I think I'll go make my ritual burnt sacrifice to the gods of independence this evening, thinking on all that. The Dean campaign here in Manchester, NH, has Windhaven (and myself, as an individual) on their list for volunteering business help for the upcoming primary. I think that says it all.

Now, go read Patrick Nielsen Hayden's post in Electrolite today . Really. You should. Go -- shoo!
