The designer's over-the-top baroque sets, costumes, interiors and jewelry made him a Hollywood favorite for
more than five decades. Exotic opulence was the signature of the Duquette style and he counted among his
clients Vincente Minnelli, Doris Duke, Mary Pickford, J. Paul Getty, David O. Selznick and the Duchess of
Windsor. He received a Tony award for his costumes for the original Broadway production of "Camelot" in
1961.

After signing with Capitol Records in 1950, the raven-haired Peruvian singer, known as the "Nightingle of the
Andes," the "Peruvian Songbird" and a "singing marvel" with a 4 1/2-octave voice, topped the charts with her
first album, "Voice of the Xtabay." Purportedly an Incan princess, the government of Peru in 1946 formally
supported her claim to be descended from Atahualp, the last Incan emperor. She gave recitals at the
Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall, and was featured in the 1951 Broadway musical
"Flahooley." She appeared in the films "Secret of the Incas" (1954) with Charleton Heston, and "Omar
Khayyam" (1957).
This photograph, in which she dons a Mr. John fez with wimple, was taken during a 1984 session to publicize
her engagement at the Cinegrill in Hollywood. It was also used on the cover of her single, "Mambo
Confusion."
Marie Windsor
Known as "The Queen of the Bs" for her many film noir roles.
