Calypte anna
Anna's Hummingbird - Adult Female
Seattle, Washington
|
These photos of an Anna's Hummingbird female where taken on a cold snowy day in late November. This bird visited a hummingbird feeder once every five minutes (observed over two hours). Notice the small gray patch and spots on the throat area of the female. Like the male, the back feathers of the female are iridescent green. Her feathers appear to change from green to gold -- depending on the light reflection. The chest and underside are light gray. The thin long wings are dark gray or black. This female prefers to perch while feeding. |
