I
captured this image while skiing back to Tioga Pass from Yosemite.
It snowed all but approximately 6 hours of the three days it took me to
ski there, and then turned to rain as I took my skis off and hiked down
into Yosemite Valley. The weather continued all week. I
finally had a friend drive me up to Tuolumne (well- Porcupine Flat is
as far as you can drive that time of year), where I proceeded to walk
the snowplowed road (or ski next to it when
I was tired of walking) for two days of beautiful weather. That
night as I stayed in Tuolumne Meadows, it snowed a couple of more feet.
My skis wouldn’t float at all the next day and I trudged on up
to my knees, until the snow was building up on the bottom of my skis so
much I finally took them off and walked waist deep. By the time
I was at this point of the picture, I was back on my skis, only a short
distance form the pay booth at the top of the pass, and cheerful enough,
to once again, take in the scenery. Tuolumne is practically vacant
this time of year, and for good reason. Not many people will venture
this far from the road (even though I was technically on a road) to earn
some turns and take some photos.
