Territory of Wisconsin
County of Crawford
Alexander Grignon, and Robert Grignon, both of said territory, personally appeared before me and being duly sworn depose and say, that they have been acquainted with Caroline Harney, since her birth, She is now aged about seven years, and is the reputed, known and acknowledged daughter of Ke-sho-ko, and Captain Harney of the Army, the said Ke-sho-ko, is a half Winnegabo, the reputed daughter of a Winnebago called the "Medicine Sack". The said Captain Harney was quartered with his regiment on the Wisconsin, when he became the father of said Caroline. The said Caroline is the same person, who was recognized by the treaty of eighteen hundred thirty three, as a relative of the Winnebagoes; she has resided near these deponents for the last seven years, and been constantly seen by deponents during this period, and always been known, and received as the daughter of said Ke-sho-ko, she was living and in good health when these deponents saw her last, within the last six weeks, shortly previous to deponents departure for Prairie du Chien, and they believe she is living still, the said Ke-sho-ko is now the wife of Pierre Carbenneau, a laboring man, and is still living.
