Combat is divided in rounds. Each round every character declares his action, then draws as many cards as his combat skill. He then does one point of damage to his chosen target for every red pip in his draw and prevents one point of damage to himself for every green pip drawn. If he draws cards that would give him extra successes (because their theme is related to the action at hand), the player decides whether those extra successes go to defense or attack.

A character can take an extremely offensive action. The player must declare this before drawing cards. In that case, red dots count double and green dots don't count at all. Likewise, if a player declares that his PC is being extremely defensive, green dots count double and red dots have no value.

Damage is subtracted from life points. If the character has no life points left, he dies.

As for opponents, this game makes a difference between creature opponents and character opponents. Creature opponents don't draw cards; they have fixed attack and defense scores (just like on a magic card). If they get more damage in a round than their defense score, they die.

Character opponents are like the PCs. Just like them they have a character deck, a combat skill and hit points, and just like them they draw a hand of cards every round. If they receive damage and can't dodge or block it, they subtract it from their hit points.

When a character fights more than one creature, add the attack scores of the creatures together to find the damage against which the character has to defend. If the character attacks, he chooses one creature that he wants to hit.

All damage is dealt at the same time. The exception is creatures or characters with first strike; they deal their damage before creatures and characters without this ability deal their damage. So timing in a combat round is:
- All characters and creatures designate their target for the round;
- Creatures and characters with ‘first strike’ deal damage;
- Dead combatants are removed;
- The other creatures deal damage;
- Dead combatants are removed.

Lost life points can be regenerated by rest and recuperation, and by healing. For each day a character spends resting, he can regain one life point. Each day, a wounded character may also undergo one attempt at healing. Any character with the healing skill can make a test against that skill; if successful, the patient gains as many life points as there were successes in the test, up to a maximum of his maximum score.
