Xian & Terracotta Warriors
A few days after we arrived in Beijing, we took a night train to Xian to see the famous Terracotta warriors of the Qin Dynasty

The train station was huge...and this was only one of the four in Beijing.
The night train
Our cabin was quite cozy

The bell tower of Xian...this was looking out of our hotel window.
The Little Goose pagoda with fifteen tiers.

Night time traffic around the bell tower.
On the way to Emperor Qin's tomb
The pollution in Xian was exceptionally bad
The smog was getting to us...we all felt pretty run down.
Translation was not always clear
The 2000 year old army of Terracotta warriors was started by Emperor Qin.
There are over 7500 different figures and each one has a different face.
After Qin died, many of the workers came back and destroyed the figures.
Many of the ones in these pictures have been put back together.
A huge structure was built to protect them . This was one of three.
All of the warriors used to have weapons. Most of them were stolen by looters.
Besides warriors, there were also horses and thier riders.

This is what they looked like before they were repaired.
Kristine tries not to step on a crack!

The bodies were made from similar molds but the heads were all different.

It's hard to see, but this bus was on fire!
Flowers...try again...these are skewers of meat.
smoke stacks were everywhere....few had scrubbers to clean the smoke.
