Give us this day our daily blog
SInce we got broadband the web experience has
been so much better we've decided to inflict our thoughts on the blogosphere
with more regularity - hopefully. It may not last. Sighs of relief all round we
suspect.
Immediately noticed a typo in the above in which
I inadvertently wrote bologosphere in which our hero writes utter bologs. So
here goes.
Tonights Channel 4 news had an
item about Simon Earle's Barefoot Training Operation in Sutton Veney, Wiltshire
which was of tremendous interest to us both having been involved in the uphill
struggle to get the ultra-conservative racehorse training world to accept
alternative treatments and diagnostic modalities for thirty years or so. Simon's
been training horses without the 'benefit' of shoes ( no not Simon - the horses,
numbnuts ) and has transformed the performance standards of two of his charges
to such a huge extent that it's attraced the attention of the media. The item
was strap-lined Canter
Intuitive a snappy play on the phrase counter
intuitive but totally inaccurate since it should be taken as read that horse
will run better without shoes. Metal shoes remove virtually all shock-absorbing
properties of the hoof the structure which is a lifetime's study all by itself.
Apart from the unyielding nature of a metal shoe they have to be nailed on which
inevitably destroys the complex structure of the hoof wall. Anyway, be that as
it may, Simon and his eminence
grise Eamon Wilmott are set fair to change
some solidly entrenched shibboleths of the training world and good luck to them.
