How to build a trail
Step One- decide where to run the trail
With so many choices, that wasn't always an easy task
Step Two- the IMBA Trail Crew provided training
Class was held on-site
Thirty volunteers attended the weekend's activities
The main route up
A completed bench cut
Some sections took major work
Art riding warm-up section
Ridge ride
Art way behind the seat - movin fast
Run-out at the bottom
Roller coaster ridge ride
Cool down section
Short, steep, and very fast
Julianne waiting turn to climb
Bench cuts allow a smooth climb
Fast sweeping left turn
That rock has your name on it
Straight down, turn left, then straight down again
There is beauty around every corner
Karl on a fast run
Is 4 inches of travel enough?
Too steep to walk - gotta ride it
This is way fun
On April 28 we had a BBQ for all the volunteers
40 members worked a little, ate a lot, then rode
the big steep was a popular run
skip the brakes and bomb it
Mike in a high speed drift
Robert letting it roll
How to build a bridge
first you start with a pile of logs
then sink 4 post and attach stringers
trim the logs so they don't roll
drill 'em
bolt 'em down
and you have a bridge
Javier drops into Frank's Loop
Holly rolling across Frank's Loop
A tractor was used to help place the second bridge
The loader was used to lift the 18' poles
Final placement
Making room for the second pole
18' across and deeper than you'd think
Starting the decking across Deep Creek
The third bridge is 25'
Boards are put in place.
Then the deck is nailed down
Last, the "screw it team" does their thing.
Looks good doesn't it?
Ropes and pully were used to drag poles
Sometimes the old way is the best
Moving pole into place
All decking is bolted down
The club's first ride drew 160 cyclists, all of which stayed for lunch
Big kids leave their toys laying around too.
The new picnic tables were put to use.
Grab lunch and a few rays before the next ride.
Bridge #7 starts with 40' of bouncing log
relay team passing boards
Teamwork speeds construction
Proper placement of decking is important
Nail, drill then bolt.
This bridge opens a new Blue section.
road map and directions
all trails
Phil working on new benchcut and bridge.
Adding a bridge halfway up the side - how wierd
first downhill on the new section
approach to ridgetop switchback
rounding the bend
long, long sidehill
another major downhill
would you believe you will coast up this..
sidehill bypass
the crew place the stringers
Howard and Kim put in the bolts
drilling to attach the post to the stringers
Tama Ray & Kim putting down the decking
approaching riders view
Jeff checks the finished product
Also put in a smaller bridge today. You drop in from the left
then climb up this root infested slope
It takes 20 volunteers to move a 40' t-pole
Getting it across the creek proved difficult
The second pole went in a little easier.
We used a fallen dead tree to get across.
Work crew returning across new bridge
Could be our finest bridge
Phil, Tim & Javier bypassing a tree dead center on a ridge
looks scary from this view
Eric checks to see if it will hold
This looks innocent enough
But maybe it's not.
Definately not innocent
Lunch was served to all the volunteers.
