Getting closer
Earl has a bad day, then a good one
Yesterday, July 17, I flew out of Greeley Weld
County airport. It was very hot and the Cessna 172R I was flying didn't perform
very well. Neither did I. My pattern work was sloppy, and my approaches and
landings execrable. I figured that maybe this whole landing business was going
to make my instructor unable to sign me off for the CFI. But today, July 18, the
patterns were well-formed, the landings non-execrable, and the flown figures
were more than acceptable. Three more days of instruction, then the FAA examines
me on the 28th of July. The Flying
School instructors continue to exceed expectations in every area.
Where one instructor can tweak my maneuvers, another tweaks my pattern work, and
a third will tweak the patter coming out of my mouth. A CFI not only must do the
maneuvers required, but also talk about them in a simple and understandable way.
That's the trick. And it's harder than it seems at first. Your brain must both
walk and chew gum at the same
time.Challenging. Exciting.
Exhilarating.
