22nd Reunion

Hola! My full name is Maria Victoria Medina. My nickname is Vicki. I was born in Puerto Rico, raised in Chicago, went back to the island for 20 years and I've been living in Maryland for last 13 years. I've been married for 30 years and have two grandchildren.

I started teaching in Puerto Rico when I was 19 years old. I have been a vice principal in a high school and a principal at the elementary level in Maryland. Presently, I work as an ESOL Parent Educator. Korea's people are extremely polite and well-mannered. They have great pride in their country and traditions. For a nation that has continually been invaded they are very calm and are looking toward a bright future for their children. They sacrifice their time and money to provide the best education.

Regardless of the negative things they may feel about the government or of the changes that are occurring, they always speak well of the nation and the people. If they have nothing kind to say they change the subject or make up something to say.

The students are no different from the ones in America. They will act according to the expectations that teachers and parents have of them. They are greatly influenced by the TV and one can see the western influence in the music and clothes. Many aspire to go to the United States to study.

Traveling to other lands expands ones knowledge, cultural understanding and appreciation of your own life. Regardless of the place, all people have the same needs and desires. They want to feel safe, be happy, and successful. I'm thankful for the opportunity to visit Korea and meet its wonderful people and experience the culture.
