This past weekend (Oct 8-9) produced some great road race sidecar action at Eastern Creek where HRR promoted the NSW Sidecar Championships.

Spectators gained entry for just $20, even less for children and pensioners.  They were treated to a feast of good racing across the sidecar classes including some good dices in the Forgotten Era Period 5 class where Bluey Selke / Christine Williams took the title with three wins and a second place with the hard charging Ross West finishing 2nd.  Ross is obviously enjoying his come-back, but earned a 20 second penalty for jumping the start in race one and was therefore relegated to second place in that event.

Bluey & Christine started well in all four championship races and impressed with a fastest lap time of 1:57:869, which is a pretty impressive time for a Period 5 bike.  By definition, a P5 machine (at a minimum) must be 25 years old.  The team of Scott Gittoes / Rob Lloyd enjoyed some good challenging competition with Michael Brown / Chris Brown, with each team scoring two thirds and two fourth places across their four championship races.

The Formula 2 class in particular provided some excitement, with spectators commenting about four bikes in contention and dicing closely for supremacy in race 2.  Brett James / Al Maggs proved to be the consistent team with three championship race wins, and a best lap time for the weekend of 1:49.421.  They were followed by Glenn  West / Evelyne Scholz with two second placings and a fourth place.  Then came Darryl Rayner / Craig Longhurst with a 2nd and 3rd placings and Warrick Levy / Mike Meyers with a 3rd and 4th placings.

Formula 1 was well spread with Mick Alton / Mark Patterson annihilating the opposition, delivering consistent 1:44 lap times most of the day.  Warren Bruce / Nate Leak commented that they had delivered their best lap time ever for the Eastern Creek circuit, but couldn't get close to the flying red Yamaha R1 LCR.  Jeff Brown / Darren Sheldrick took 3rd place, followed by Mitchell Cluff / Brandon Cluff and Scott Davis / Lionel Cornwell.

Sidecar action for the day closed out with an all classes handicap event which proved to be entertaining, even if it was challenging for the officials.
