The mission of the Assessment SRIG is to promote dialogue and improve practice related to a broad range of assessment issues pertinent to music education. Any MENC member who has an interest in assessment and assessment issues in research is encouraged to join the SRIG. To do so, click the "Join" link found on the left side of this page.




Call for Proposals


The Assessment Special Research Interest Group (SRIG), a component of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, seeks proposals for presentations at the SRIG’s session at the 1st MENC Biennial National Conference on Research in Music Education and Music Teacher Education to be held March 25-27, 2010, in Anaheim, California. Proposals that address all aspects of assessment in music education and music education research are welcome. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

1. Current research in measurement and assessment in music education
2. Philosophical and theoretical foundations for assessment in music education
3. Frameworks, models, and designs for assessing student music learning in music classrooms
4. Assessment in music teacher education, including the assessment of preservice teachers, and preparing preservice teachers to assess preK-12 students
5. The role of technology in facilitating music assessment
6. Issues related to the daily practice of music assessment for K-12 music teachers.

Proposals should conform to APA style and include a separate title page with the presenter’s name and contact information, an abstract of no more than 250 words, and one of the following: (a) a completed paper of no more than 5,000 words, or (b) an extended abstract of no more than 1,000 words with a list of references.
