The SRIG sponsored two sessions at the 2008 MENC Conference
in Milwaukee, WI:
SRIG Assessment: Music Student Assessment and
Program Assessment in American Colleges: Dr. William Bauer,
Dr. Suzanne Burton, and
Dr. Peter McAllister
discussed student assessment, current requirements of
the National Association of Schools of Music, the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher
Education, and the Teacher Education Accreditation
Council, along with the movement toward standards and
accountability in higher education.
Assessment SRIG Roundtable: The SRIG
membership met to discuss issues of relevance to their
research area, further opportunities for collaboration, and
the SRIG's action plan for the next two years. The election
results were announced, with Dr. Tim Brophy receiving
the majority of the votes cast, becoming the next SRIG
Chair-elect. Dr. Brophy also presented a summary of
the symposium discussion groups from
Integrating Curriculum, Theory, and Practice: A Symposium
on Assessment in Music Education held in 2007 at the
University of Florida.
