Email from a friend of Max Geldray

I recently received an email from a colleague of Max Geldray...

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Max. Being a harmonica player myself and originally from England, I was a member of a harmonica group for the best part of 10 years playing throughout England and parts of Europe with Morton Frasers Harmonica gang.

I always listened to Max on the radio when he had a regular spot on the "Goon Show". I also had the pleasure of meeting him in Blackpool as we were playing different theatres during the summer season. I am now living in Sherman Oaks in California. I had phoned Max a few times whenever I visited Palm Springs, but never got chance to get together with him.

I was very surprised that Mr. Markowitz never hired him to appear in the Follies.  I auditioned for him a few years ago and he was very impressed but never hired me.  One of his staff who had worked for him since the follies opened had a retirement party (her name was Yetta) her son had hired me to entertain at the party in Palm Springs thinking that Mr. Markowitz would attend and see my performance. Although there was a big turn out, Mr Markowitz did not attend.  I'm proud to say that whever I perform I am well recieved and I could survive without being in the Follies.

I am now 82 yrs.of age and am still out there doing my thing. A final word to good entertainers keep going and don't get discouraged.

Peace and good health to all.

Wishing Mrs. Geldray good health and I'm sure she will allways enjoy the good memories.
