Any Problems?
If you encounter any problems first check that Scripting, Style sheets and JavaScript are enabled in your web browser.

Most pictures are set for progressive loading. If this fails, leaving a blurred picture, try emptying your browser cache before reloading.

In a few cases pictures may not show properly if you are using Internet Explorer on a PC. If you experience bad quality pics under those circumstances this advice from Apple may help:

Make sure that the "Enable Automatic Image Resizing" checkbox is unchecked; it can be reached via the Tools menu, then the Internet Options selection, then on the Advanced tab, under the Multimedia subheading. Once this setting has been disabled, re-loading the affected page, clearing the cache, or even quitting/restarting Internet Explorer outright, may be necessary for your images to then display properly.

If any problems are encountered with Norwegian letters (æ. ø, å) try resetting Default Characters in your browser - Western (Latin 1) may be best.

If you have any persistent problems (or if you find any broken links) please let us know. Links are checked from time to time but the frequency at which sites change makes it difficult to keep them up to date.

About the Pictures and Text Pages
Most pictures taken on Hurtigruten are separated into years. Other pictures of Norway are organised by subject matter and the date (eg 5/99) is shown in captions. Pictures from the 2007 trip are shown together.

To speed loading we have tried to keep the JPEGs to a reasonable size. Should you want a higher resolution, say for printing yourself, just let us know.

First pictures were scanned off slides taken on an ancient Spotmatic and negatives from an even older half-frame Olympus Pen D. A few are scanned from negs taken with a modern Olympus mju 170. Michael preferred the antiques!

These were scanned using a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual II (except for documents which were done on a Microtek 4600). Software used included Adobe PhotoShop 5.0LE, GraphicConverter and Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 and Adobe Elements 2.0. The site is on Apple's .Mac iDisk and was prepared on a Mac G4 running OS 9.2 and a Mac G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4. Apple HomePage was used for most albums. Adobe PageMill 3.0 was used for text pages like this and also Mozilla Composer.

More recently the digital world has been embraced enthusiastically (though initially reluctantly) and 2006 and 2007 pictures were taken on a Panasonic Lumix FZ7 bridge camera and a Pentax K10D DSLR.

Copyright of pictures belongs to Michael Wasley unless stated otherwise. Some in Norway were taken by Margrit Musser or Walter Grossman and these, used with their permission, are marked. Some of the internal pictures in Scotland were joint effort between Louisa and Michael.

Sources of copyright free pictures are identified. Some images of maps,logos etc were taken from free guides and publicity material.
