Ástjörn at Ásbyrgi

We walked from the service station at Ásbyrgi over Áshöfdi and along the Jökulsá á Fjöllum gorge to return via Ásbyrgi canyon.
Ástjörn is a small lake near the start of the walk. Vegetation is lush but there was little bird life in the National Park.
North-east Iceland had experienced a very late snow storm a few weeks before which had killed many birds.
