Brazilian GSE team prepares for tour through Central New York

What is Group Study Exchange?  The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 in the initial years of their professional life.

The program provides travel grants for teams ofparticipants to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four to six weeks, team members study the host country’s institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. Team members can come from corporations, small businesses, community organizations, medical and educational facilities, government offices, and nonprofit agencies.
The Skaneateles club has been active in hosting and supporting this effort in the past,  and provided two GSE Team Leaders in past decade:  Ward also led a GSE team to South Africa in 2004, and Tera Renner led a GSE team to Peru in 2005.

This year, the district is exchanging teams with Brazil, and the Brazilian team is currently in CNY, and will be in our region of the district during the week following the conference – week of September 16th.

As of this week, host families are still needed for their visit.

The team members will be at the Holiday Inn in Auburn for a presentation at 7PM on Tuesday the 17th, as will be touring Welch Allyn on that morning.   The team’s schedule is as follows:

9/15/08 Monday- Wine Tour

9/16/08 Tuesday – Welch Allyn tour and 7pm Presentation and hors d’oeuvres. Cost will follow.

9/17/08 Wednesday -Vocational day

9/18/08 Thursday -Possible visit to Cornell

9/19/08 Friday -Tour of Auburn and other local sites

9/20/08 Saturday- Rest and regrouping and time with host familes

9/21/08 Sunday – transfer to next area.

The outbound team from D7150 to Brazil will be departing in May of 2009.

For more information on the district’s GSE efforts, and applications for team members, visit the GSE page of the district website at: http://www.rotarydistrict7150.org/GSE-08-09_Brazil.htm
