Rotary Fellowships offer chance to expand network of friends

Ever wanted to expand your network of friends throughout the globe?

Rotarians across the globe have joined together to create global networking groups, which allow individual Rotarians from several countries to join together to focus on common interests.

Rotarian Ed Goering visited our group last week plannign on enjoying our program and learning a little more about our club.  When the regularly scheduled speaker failed to join, Ed graciously offered to share information about his club and, more particularly, Rotary fellowships.

There are two types of Global Networking Groups:  Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups.  Rotary Fellowships offer Rotarians an opportunity to:

·      Share Fellowship and friendship with thousands of Rotarians

·      Meet other Rotarians with similar hobbies or vocational backgrounds

·      Collaborate with Rotarians from around the world who are dedicated to a particular area of service.

Through Rotary Rotary Fellowships, Rotarians can make friends with others in Rotary who share a common vocation, hobby or recreational interest,  Ed said.

For example, Ed loves to ski and participates annual in the Internataional Ski Fellowship.  Rotarians from at least 13 countries around the world will gather this year to ski at Crested Butte, Park City next year and in Canada the following year.  There are other similar fellowships in Italy, Sweden and Turkey, among others.

Other fellowships Ed participates in include one for hosting, in which Rotarians exchange housing while traveling internationally and an RV fellowship for Rotarians who love to travel the country by recreational vehicle.

A complete list of Rotary fellowships is available online at:

www.rotary.org/en/serviceandfellowship/fellowship/GlobalNetworkinggroups/Pages/ridefault.aspx

The site also contains a handbook with complete information about the fellowship progams.

Ed is a member of the Albany, Oregon Rotary Club.  Albany is located along Route 5 in Oregon between Eugene and Portland.  He traveled by RV to this area to visit his son Scott, who recently relocated to Skaneateles for his job with Intel.
